Postdoctoral research position in the Nuclear Science Laboratory

The University of Notre Dame Nuclear Science Laboratory (NSL) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position to perform research at the NSL. Candidates with a range of experiences in experiments related to nuclear astrophysics, nuclear structure, and fundamental symmetries are encouraged to apply. The NSL is home to several research groups studying a wide range of topics in nuclear physics, and the successful candidate will have the freedom to choose among the various research groups to work with.

The NSL is a mid-sized nuclear physics laboratory operating three low-energy accelerators on campus for nuclear physics research: a 10MV FN Pelletron Tandem accelerator for DC or pulsed ion beams, a 5MV single ended 5U Pelletron accelerator for high intensity ion beams, and a 3MV 9S Pelletron Tandem accelerator for nuclear application research. The local accelerators serve a total of fourteen target stations, five for the 5U Pelletron in two target halls, seven for the FN Tandem distributed over three target halls, and two for the 9S in a single target hall. For further information, please visit http://isnap.nd.edu.

A Ph.D. in physics is required for this position, and candidates who are nearing completion of their Ph.D. will also be given full consideration. The appointment is for two years, with a third-year contingent on performance and continued funding. Base salary will be commensurate with experience.

The University of Notre Dame is committed to excellence. The University is located near South Bend, Indiana and provides a friendly environment and affordable cost of living. The successful applicant will receive health care and other benefits. More information about being a postdoctoral scholar at Notre Dame can be found at http://postdocs.nd.edu.

Candidates should provide a cover letter, CV, a research statement not to exceed 3 pages, publication list and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted. Please contact Dan Bardayan (danbardayan@nd.edu) with questions about the position. Applications will be reviewed when received and applications received by August 1, 2024 will receive full consideration. Applications submitted after that will be considered while the position is open.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is committed to diversity and inclusion, and encourages applications from women and members of traditionally underrepresented groups.
